Myspace lawsuit??

In PA 4 teen girls' families are filing lawsuits against Myspace.com because they were sexually abused by adults they met on the site. The parents argument is that "Myspace should have better security measures to effectively increase the safety of its underage users." Its sad the girls were sexually abused, but do yall really believe its Myspaces' fault for the parents not monitoring their kids on the computer? I wanna know yalls thoughts/opinions on this...

Myspace lawsuit??

I think the parents should stop shifting the blame to others. If they had raised their kids right %26amp; been decent parents who were involved in their kids lives this sort of thing never would have happened. They want a huge corporation who doesn't know these girls from Adam to be responsible for what they do online yet they are right there in the same house with them and didn't care enough to do that which they are accusing MySpace of! It's absurd! The parents are at fault %26amp; they need to take the blame.

Myspace lawsuit??

No its the girls fault not to be smart enough to know not to meet people on the internet and give away personal information.

Myspace lawsuit??

My space is freedom of speech. The parents have to take responsibility for raising their children.

Myspace lawsuit??

No because I've had myspace for over a year and I've never had problems like that. These girls choose to be fast and they suffer the consequences. Their parents should be held accountable for their childs actions. Kids these days.

Myspace lawsuit??

its a tough situation but ultimately the blame falls on the idiot who molested the girls

Myspace lawsuit??

I think its Myspace's fault because it IS there site. The parents can not monitor there kids at all times. Myspace is just another opportunity for sexual predators to get what they want. I would sue too.

Myspace lawsuit??

your right hun it is the parents responsibilitiy to watch what their kids are doing on these sites it is a sad to think that there are girls getting abused on here but it is also the parents responsibility to watch what these kids are doing

Myspace lawsuit??

as a parent, much as i want to make sure that my kids can only have access to safe activities, i know that is not how the world is. the real world will always have evil in it. it happens even in places we feel they are safest at -- i.e. schools, churches, etc. i cannot put blame on these places if my kids went to it and something bad happened. for one, we should, as much as we could, teach the kids how to protect themselves. at the risk of sounding insensitive...i disagree with the parents' argument on that.

Myspace lawsuit??

Yes. Its myspace's fault that no one takes responsibility for their own actions anymore. *eyeroll*

of COURSE not. Its OUR job to be responsibile and accountable for all we do! This includes ignoring our children, not having conversations with our children, etc.

Its not the legal system's job to raise our children!!

When you are pregnant and decide to keep the child, it then becomes YOUR job to parent this child, educate this child, keep it safe and healthy until its 21 and legally able to go wreak havoc on society.

Myspace lawsuit??

That's like all the people who sue McDonald's because they're obese. The world is lawsuit hungry nowadays because no one wants to take responsibility for their own actions anymore. They just want to place the blame elsewhere so that THEY don't look bad. These parents are teaching their girls to be victims--they're teaching them that it's ok to make stupid decisions because you can always get out of it by blaming someone else. I think the parents should have paid more attention to what their kids were doing and saying online. And they should be more worried about finding the creeps who sexually abused their daughters than suing Myspace.

Myspace lawsuit??

thats a difficult one the parents can't stand over kids 24/7 i can understand how the parents feel its hard to know what to do the pc even if monitored is at best ok but not 100% nothing is as things stand now and the myspace site can't monitor as well so who knows i do think its important to keep safety online thats why i'm always getting onto people here for their cussing because if we are doing that we may get pedifiles in here and that would be sad then what if Y!A was shut down also i have a grown child of my own so i'm protective of children as an mom who brought her son up its sad that the world has come to this and that there are sick perverts that prey on young children i have watched i think it was dateline when they had preditors they got girls on net and the guys showed up and they were busted hopefully we can somehow make net safe for us all

Myspace lawsuit??

No, it is not Myspace's fault. On myspace if you are not a certain age your profile is set to private. Nobody can view it unless you add them to your friend's list. You can also go as far as not even accepting friend's requests from people unless they know your last name or email address. I hate how parents are always trying to blame somebody else. Why aren't they monitoring what their children are doing on the internet? Why are they letting their children meet adults they met on the internet? Don't blame a website because you failed to be a parent and protect your child. When I was that age I wouldn't DARE meet somebody online. My parents knew nothing about a computer. They trusted me to be safe online and I was. The did not physically monitor everything I did online but they raised me better than to meet strangers from the internet.

Myspace lawsuit??

I don't think it's the fault of myspace. It's the girls. Parents can only do so much monitoring. They chose to meet the people that abused them. I am sure the girls lied to their parents. Sad that they got abused. Just watch that special on TV. I can't remember the title. The one where all these grown men meet this girl at her house and surprise news cameras are there and police are in the bushes.
