well ive had my myspace for a little while. and its set to private and all but is it bad to have a picture of YOURSELF on there? not slutty ones but regular ones? should i just have something like a icon for my picture instead of myself?

You sound like a smart young adult, just consider the following tips and always use your head and you'll be alright.

-Don't forget that your profile and MySpace forums are public spaces. Don't post anything you wouldn't want the world to know (e.g., your phone number, address, IM screens name, or specific whereabouts). Avoid posting anything that would make it easy for a stranger to find you, such as where you hang out every day after school.

-As you probably know, people online are not always who they appear to be so be very careful about friendships you establish or information you give to people you meet through your Myspace profile.

-Be careful about adding strangers to your friends list. It's fun to connect with new MySpace friends from all over the world, but avoid meeting people in person whom you do not fully know. It's probably best to only accept friend requests from people you know. If you must meet someone, do it in a public place and bring a friend or trusted adult.

-Don't mislead people into thinking that you're older or younger, as this may put you at risk of being contacted by and receiving inappropriate messages from older adults.

-Yes, your wise not to use photos which you wouldn't want a parent, teacher, school administrator, or boss later seeing. Using a regular photo of yourself would be ok, but public photos can be linked to from other websites and even downloaded to other's computers. However, you can use an icon as an alternative in place of a photo or if you choose to use a photo, you can disable the linking to your photo. (see below)

-And finally, make the most of Myspace's privacy options, including:

Choosing to require users to know your email address or last name to send you a friend request.

Choosing to make your profile only viewable to people on your friends list

Choosing to review comments to your profile, blog, or photos before they are posted.

Choosing to hide your online status from other users.

What's the point of having a myspace when your friends can't even see it's you? No one is going to kill/stalk you because you have a picture of yourself...

Just keep it a private profile and be careful who you accept into your friends.

no its not bad to have a pic of urself i do and as long as ur profile is private no1 can see any of them except the on on ur display

only except people you know (in reality/person) as ur friends

I have had a myspace for like 2 or 3 years now. i have pictures of myself on their. My myspace is perfectly safe. what i do is set it to private (which you did) and use a special code to hide my top friends, and my comments. If any creap trys to message you just delete it, but if its threatening save it, and show a respected adult.

You can also only accept friends if you know them. thats what i do. You could also not write anything in your about me section or just keep it simple like "Hey 閳?I'm (first name) get to me :]" thats what mine is basically like. You could also set everything in your profile to private including your blog %26amp; pictures.

That's just fine to have a picture of yourself! Most of the people do! As long as it's set to private, no one can see it unless you approve the people in your friends requests.

It's best to deny people you don't know, people who don't have pictures, or people who you just feel unsure of.

It's also a good idea to not put your real city and/or state on there, just incase some sicko comes across it.

Myspce isn't safe at all, no matter what you do, Myspace is VERY dangerous, there are over 40,000 predators on Myspace, at least those are the only ones the cops knows.
