My public school has blocked myspace, msn messenger, etc. They constantly block all of the new proxies. This is not a major obstruction of our school work anyways because the teachers constantly moniter what we are doing in any situtation were we work on computers. Myspace should be available for free time. Do you think this is legal or inviolation of our rights by the first amendment to do this?

You are on the school's computers.Not yours.They can block anything they please and you have no say.Anyhow,schools are trying to cover their butts partially too.Plenty of parents would love to file lawsuits against schools for putting their kids in danger these days and that would be the perfect opportunity.

Sorry to break it to you, but it is perfectly legal. There is adult content on MySpace, and to try and just filter specific pages on MySpace would likely prove to be too hard. Easy fix, it is filtered out completely.

I believe that it is within the school's right to block your use of myspace and messenger.

Remember that to get on the internet, one has to subscribe to an internet provider, the school pays for this service, hence they can determine what places can be visited because it is on their dime.

Internet access is not protected by the first amendment.

Yes, it is legal. So many people have been hurt seriously by other people using the computer. They are doing everything in their power to protect the young.

It is very much legal for them to do this , and as far as "your rights " as a child you have only one and that is the right to a free education until you become 18 years old when you become a legal adult , until then your parents ,and schools have the full authority to not allow anything they deem inappropriate to a minor after all that is why you are called a minor not an adult .

I had the same concern when I was studying but I realize that it is not our right that they are violating or it is not the privillage of using the internet. It made me think why they do that and its simple. They would not want abuse of it we all know these sites are not secure that we could transmit any documents including pornos, virus, spams and other non-educational materials or content of a website. In case of school grounds only those secure from what I have mentioned above are allowed.

I suggest try to be friend with your system administrator to give you an access to these site or perhaps never try to open these site in school but after school at your houses.
